Episode 16: Update
in

Episode 16 is now fully re-drafted. A lot of changes have been made - new scenes in, old scenes cut and I think just about every sentence has been re-written at least twice. I'm now going to go and read through it from top to bottom (and doubtless re-write large bits of it again!). But when that's done it'll be ready. I'm going out for the day / evening later and won't be home till sometime tomorrow, but when I get in, I'll start recording. It's 12 pages long, so it should be about 45 minutes of audio.

When the blood cells below turn red, the episode is live Smile

Where do you find your images Mike

Trillianne's picture

I knew there was something else I wanted to ask, my friend and I are curious as to where you find all your great images for each chapter, love them as much as the stories as shows just how much effort you put in (think it is brilliant that we have a new one for each).

Thank you

No camping yet

Mike's picture

Due to my weekend trip to Wexford, I didn't get the text fully edited, so site-camping at the moment will just prove frustrating. I'm going to work on the text today, hopefully finish it, then start recording. Consequently, grey cells won't turn red for at least three days; I'm working longer hours at work and have less time in the day for my 'hobby'. Oh cruel day job - it torments both me and my audience with its terrible hour-munching schedule. One day I will be free of it ... but not this side of Christmas ... 2010 ;-)

Work is annoying I agree

Trillianne's picture

I know how you feel, someone scheduled meetings for me today that really interferred with my podcast listening, garden camping and web surfing. Glad you had a good weekend away though.

Will check in later in the week then. I better get off and do some of my day job and chase those debtors (I should threaten to drink their blood if they don't pay but I have already been accused of bleeding some of them dry (not literally so no complaints please)).

Weekend in Wexford

Yogi's picture

I hope it was restful and fun. Laughing Work can be, well... it can be kinda full of work. DARNIT. All work and no play... well, you know the rest.

I hope writing and performing Underwood and Flinch is just as much fun for you as it is LISTENING to you perform Underwood and Flinch for US. Wink

Not camping it,  just chilling out. Innocent Thanks for the update.

Performing

Mike's picture

Thanks Yogi. Yes, while writing and performing U&F is work, it's also fun - especially performing weird / evil people Smile

Hi Mike! I discovered your

Consolamentum's picture

Hi Mike!

I discovered your podcasts on iTunes last week, and as of today I have listened to most of Hall of Mirrors and all of Underwood and Flinch. Just wanted to say that you are an excellent author and performer!

I await next episode with great anticipation - I'm looking forward to hear how Underwood will react to his Guardian's attempts to "reform" him. Thanks and keep up the great work! Laughing

Greetings from Sweden!

Jonas Liljestrom, aka Consolamentum.

Hej Consolamentum

Progress on 16

Mike's picture

Welcome to you, Consolamentum. Glad to hear you're enjoying the show so far.

Here's a news update on Episode 16. So far 8 of 12 pages are recorded as audio, but there are millions of different takes to weed through until I get the final cut. I'll also probably re-do the voices of Beltran and Ana in two separate recordings as they are very difficult to drop in and out of in between all the screaming and shouting of the narrative.

I have to go to the dentist tomorrow to get an aching tooth seen to, so that'll eat in my schedule (as well as my face), but these things have to get done or the screaming on the recording will be a tad too authentic ;-)

This means that a mid-week release is now looking as likely as the Titanic turning up with all hands alive and well on a little ice island surrounded by fog where no-one ever ages. Hey, this could be the long-sought-for sequel to the Titanic movie. Maybe I should pitch it?

We are then, now looking at a weekend release. Sorry campers.

thank you

Mike, I just want to say thank you for this truly great work, surely this should be in print? Love listening when I,m on nights. Would make a great film.

Print

Mike's picture

Thanks C.K.

U&F will be in print (in stages) soon. It's one of my down-time (down-time? Surely no rest for the wicked?) projects to release the first part of the book as a print-on-demand paperback. So hopefully before the end of the year, the first 13 or 14 chapters will available for your bookshelf Smile

Just hanging out until you're ready...

Yogi's picture

Though I haven't been camping -- not really -- I thought I'd pop in quickly for a look...

Going to the dentist??? Well, that is definitely no fun at all. And here we thought WORK was awful. Good luck at the dentist. Not much screaming there, Sealed well not after that first very large needle anyway ...  er, um, hope you're OK.  Innocent

Seriously though, Mike Bennett, take care of you.  I'm not impatient at all. I still have all of Hall of Mirrors to hear. And I'm thinking of listening to OAtS again, since my commuter friend has begun listening and likes it a lot. We'll have something to talk about when we're not listening.  Smile Gosh I just love the vampire smiley; isn't he just the cutest..

HoM

Mike's picture

All of Hall of Mirrors? You have a real full lunch box ahead of you there, Yogi. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks

Hello Mike,

I'm new to your U&F site but not to your body of podcast works.  Just wanted to say thank you for your true passion of story telling and commitment to your audience.  I must say that i'm a bit spoiled in that "One Among the Sleepless" was finished before I found it and was able to listen to it in its entireity with out break.  "Hall of Mirrors" is also a favorite of mine.  I actually heard "Night Crossing" on the older HOM feed not knowing of the novel and then sought it out.  I'm really enjoying this and all of your works and once again  THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thank you

Mike's picture

Thanks Luke

Very glad to hear that, and to have you on board here at U&F.com Smile

Not the Dentist!!!

Trillianne's picture

Oh Mike, poor you, hope it went ok and your tooth is now fixed. Well I go away for the day and everyone has been busy. Lots of new peeps too, its getting busy here in the garden, will have to expand into a neighbouring meadow or something but I have my cave along with Angel.

So there is lots of screaming in the next episode, now I really am intregued.

Anyway, Take Care Mike and will patiently wait.

Trillianne xxxxx

Tooth

Mike's picture

The toothache turned out to be a phantom pain - the tooth is allegedly fine. The dentist tapped it with a tool and told me I was okay because I didn't feel any pain. Then she charged me €50.00 and showed me out. Maybe I should see a better dentist. I'm in no pain though, it was just a cautionary - and expensive - visit.

At least dick turpin wore a mask

Trillianne's picture

€50.00 to tap a tooth, daylight robbery! As the title says at least Dick Turpin wore a mask. LOL

Glad everything is ok though, I dread to think now of the cost if you needed work doing. Undecided

Take Care

Trillianne xxxxx

Cautionary visit

Yogi's picture

Very glad to know that you avoided the extremely large needle filled with novacaine. That in itself can be pretty painful and uncomfortable. Although, I am sorry to hear you had to pay so much for the visit.

At any rate, I'm glad you're OK, Mike Bennett. SmileLike Trillianne, I would hate to think how much it would have been if you'd gotten more than a tooth-tapping.
