It Flowed
Señor Mike, it sure flowed well; this episode. I hope that the Spanish warmth will do wonders for the "Master." Gracias.
Men Without Hats?!
Lydia might be evil, and she might be heartless, but she's got questionable taste in music.
Music
Lydia obviously never got past her 'Smash Hits' phase, was probably one she made for herself for bopping round her bedroom and singing into her hairbrush, what we weren't told about is the neon pink legwarmers she was wearing (LOL).
I on the otherhand always enjoy snippet blast backs from the 80's
Thanks Mike, definately made me smile.
I hope you continue her tribute to the 80's
Perhaps some Kajagoogoo to calm the sould, or some Big Country... Ahh, the memories...
Kajagoogoo
Kajagoogoo? Oh man, that's bad. Yes, I'll get them in there somewhere
80's Tribute continued
If you have Kajagoogoo can we add Adam and the Ants, possibly some new romantics? God, serious blast from the past (I say this doing the Prince Charming dance round my lounge). Have to go and dig out the big black disk things, what were they called?

Ant Muzic x
Hi again Trilli babe, I was, indeed an Ant Person lol
Memories, god bless 'em. I even went to see Andam Ant at the Appolo in Manchester, in the 80's(he was very good, actually) fofl
Chat tomoz, when can we do 'coffee and cakes' again?

80s music
I hope you guys didn't think I was being critical about Lydia and her obsession with '80s music. I thought it was hilarious that this black-hearted, monstrous person would play music as silly as "Safety Dance" at a vampire's resurrection ceremony. I am a product of the '80s myself and would like to add The Fixx, Roxy Music and Ministry as favorite music from that time period.
Evil ... er ... 80s
Not at all Spook-Child. The music is being played at the soiree in the courtyard and is supposed to be an ironic contrast to, as you say, Lydia's black-heartedness. It's not only the music of her youth, but also (she feels) an area of music that most of her guests will probably enjoy (as assumption which is probably wrong, but she's not really interested beyond her own feelings). The 'Safety Dance' thing isn't actually in the novel text, it's just in the intro notes, a little joke to help maintain the black-comedic element of the story.
Speak not too quickly dear narrator
I was astonished to find that in Germany, one of their great pop icons is in fact David Hasslehoff. Over here in the states, that is a constant source of chortles and mirth. Unheard of, really. Now thinking of Lydia playing Obsession by Animotion during one of her sect blood rituals whilst writhing in a pool of blood on the floor, or Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran... That's a picture to paint... or not...
How about this???
Well after relistening to 16 for the fifth time I have a great image of these hooded figures leaving the house with Wham's 'Wake me up before you go go' blaring out.
Oh this is a discussion that could go on for a while, liking this one.
Wham just started the wheels turning. George Michael...
During the silly bloody orgy...
Cause I gotta have sex (and blood),
hhhmmm, I gotta have sex (and blood)
cause I gotta have sex, sex, sex, (and blood, blood, blood)
I gotta have sex! (and blood!)
Lydia's 80's mix
Nice one SynapticJam, I added it to the list.
From the snippets of info we were given and the suggestions on here I have put together what I figure was on that tape, its cheesey but sure made me smile on the way to work.

Thanks!
Great episode as always, Mike! Enjoy your hiatus and come back soon!
Lord Underwood
Very happy to see that he actually could arise from the dead.
Although I knew it was coming, I was on the edge of my chair waiting to see what would happen. Excellent resurrection.
Was Lord Underwood as I expected him to be? Well, yes and no. But then, he is just waking from his 50 year sleep. I can't wait to see what happens next.
You're awesome, Mike Bennett.
Underwood
I agree Yogi, our Lord Underwood was not the gentleman I expected but I suspect he wouldn't be in the best of moods with the circus Lydia created or at being treated like a baby with the tube feeding.
I have a feeling he will set about putting things back to how it should be (or at least putting Lydia in her place and getting David to grow some balls).

Voices
You read it so well, was a fantastic episode.
Breakfast
I can't even chat about it with you all here, because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't had a chance to hear it. However, I will just say this; I was surprised at breakfast.
Trillianne, I agree totally. It is a fantastic episode.
And of course, you, Mike Bennett, have a wonderful voice that brings it all to life... or undeath, as the case may be.
Mars bars... nice one.
Congrats on the new room and here is hoping you have the space to be all creative and all that in your new space ... and rest up on your summer fun. Spain sounds lovely. So... until the moon rises again...
Many Woofs
to you Mike. Wow what an absolutely stunning episode !! I too was surprised by breakfast Yogi, wow! I have that image burned into my eyes( ears?). Mike I hope you have a wonderful holiday and get rid of that spare room pallor. I hope during the hiatus you will pop by to say hello, yeah? ( whine, whimper, sniff....) We've become accustomed to your voice I think.
WOOF!
We'll miss him, won't we?
Woofboi we will miss him, won't we? We have become accustomed to his voice. We'll miss all the folks on Underwood and Flinch, too. Ah well, soon...a month isn't a long time, not really.
Mike definitely deserves the rest, even though he has recently got his new room where he will almost certainly chill out when he is all podcasted out sometimes...
Visiting family is always nice. While resting and in the sun he can think of all the fabulous listener art with which he might like to decorate the walls of his new room. He can put up nice sunglasses reflecting neighborhoods, and clocks spattered with blood, and pictures of lovely trolls and all those things that are parts of all those wonderful stories.
I hope he stops by for a visit too. In the meantime, we'll think of all the quirky little questions we always wanted to ask but didn't. Maybe he'll answer them on the air.
Thank you Mike Bennett, you are generous
Mike,
Just wanted to say thanks, because I've been burning through all your podcast material for 4 or 5 months yet haven't entered any comments for you anywhere. You are so so so good and generous. This episode was fantastic and horrible (the grotesque way)! Thank you again!
